Colorado State Information
In Colorado, approximately over 80,000 children live with grandparents or other relative caregivers. Additionally, over 28,000 grandparents reported having their grandchildren living with them.
The state offers various resources to grandparents and relative care families through its Colorado Kinship Care Connection. This resource is web-based and provides information regarding, laws, services and program. It also contains a full manual to assist any relative caregiver. The Kinship Care Connection full lists resources by county and provides information about upcoming events and programs. It is a one stop shop for information and support on kinship care families.
Colorado offers a diverse range of services, support, and assistance for relative care families. Through public and private partnerships the state has been able to place many children with relatives, and prevent their entrance into the foster system.
